HE2226 : Carbon Foot Printing: Accounting, Certification, Reporting & Crediting

This practical and highly-interactive course
includes real-life case studies where participants
will be engaged in a series of interactive small
groups and class workshops.
This course provides participants with the technical
knowledge, methodologies & practical tools required
to develop, manage, verify, report and improve
organizational carbon footprints. The course
addresses corporate greenhouse gas (GHG)
accounting, Scope 1, Scope 2 & Scope 3 emissions,
emission-factor selection, data quality, uncertainty,
carbon footprint verification/certification, climaterelated
reporting & carbon crediting.
The course is structured around internationally
recognized approaches including the GHG Protocol
Corporate Standard, Corporate Value Chain (Scope
3) Standard & ISO 14064 family, with consideration of
their application within energy & oil & gas operations.
The GHG Protocol classifies direct emissions as
Scope 1, purchased energy emissions as Scope 2
and other value-chain indirect emissions as Scope 3.
The course is particularly relevant to company’s
sustainability context, where emissions reduction,
responsible energy delivery and measurable
decarbonization form important elements of the
company's sustainability approach.
Further, the course will also discuss the climate change, decarbonization and carbon
management fundamentals; the carbon footprinting principles, terminology and
applications; the international GHG accounting standards and frameworks and
organizational and operational boundaries; the GHG sources, GHG inventory and
direct GHG emissions accounting; the activity data and emission factors, carbon
footprint calculation methodologies and data quality, uncertainty and GHG inventory
controls; the carbon footprint verification and assurance fundamentals; and the GHG
inventory for verification, materiality and risk-based verification.
During this interactive course, participants will learn the verification findings and
continuous improvement; the principles of credible carbon reporting, corporate GHG
inventory report and carbon performance indicators and benchmarking; the climate
and sustainability disclosure frameworks, carbon reduction targets and GHG
reduction and decarbonization program; the carbon footprint reporting for
management decision-making; the fundamentals of carbon credits and carbon
markets and GHG project accounting for carbon credits; the carbon neutrality versus
net zero, emission reduction hierarchy and treatment of residual and hard-to-abate
emissions; and the appropriate role of credits within decarbonization strategies.
