Course Description

 
This practical and highly-interactive course includes real-life case studies and exercises where participants will be engaged in a series of interactive small groups and class workshops. 
 
This course is designed to provide participants with a detailed and up-to-date overview of IMO HNS operations level. It covers the essential knowledge and skills to handle, respond to, and mitigate incidents involving hazardous and noxious substances in maritime and offshore environments. The course covers the International Maritime Organization (IMO) HNS Convention, classification of hazardous substances, risk assessment, emergency response protocols, and environmental impact mitigation. 
 
During this interactive course, participants will learn the HNS response and legislation covering international legislation, codes of practice, compensation and liability regime; the chemical substances, HNS transportation and key components of an emergency response system; the response organization and response methods for vessels from the HNS release; the health and safety, decontamination, disposal and post – operational activity; and the media awareness and contingency plan development.

Training Methodology : 80% theory, 20% practical
