Course Description

 This practical and highly-interactive course includes real-life case studies and exercises where participants will be engaged in a series of interactive small groups and class workshops. 
 

This course is designed to provide participants with a detailed and up-to-date overview of well abandonment. It covers the current industry practices and objectives of well abandonment; the impact of prescriptive and goal-oriented regulation; the current good practice and internationally adopted guidelines; the industry performance to date, public perception and reputation management and common abandonment methods; the abandonment design process and management of risk; the importance of geological assessment, the impact of well architecture and current condition and the ideal data set; the typical abandonment risks and risk management; the importance of known unknowns, equipment and services; and the rig and services requirements. 

 

During this interactive course, participants will learn the barrier material options, rigless alternatives, novel methods and new and novel technologies; the well abandonment cost estimation good practices; the types of estimate and their limitations; the classes of estimate and their application; the basis of estimate, causes of cost overrun, deterministic versus probabilistic estimates and financial provision options and their implications; executing good practices and cost reduction opportunities; the good practices in project planning, operations management, campaigning, scheduling and simultaneous operations; and the options for contracting strategy.
