Course Description

This practical and highly-interactive course includes real-life case studies and exercises where participants will be engaged in a series of interactive small groups and class workshops. This course is designed to provide participants with a detailed and up-to-date overview of demurrage/laytime. It covers the laytime, demurrage and despatch; the various types of laytime; the start of laytime during the arrival of the ship; the notice of readiness (NOR); the start and stoppage of demurrage and calculating laytime for dry and wet cargoes; and the laytime and demurrage clauses covering different charterparties & NOR clauses, weather clauses, time bar clauses, crude oil washing, stripping & letters of protest. During this interactive course, participants will learn the various samples of calculations; the demurrage claims management and its main stage, key clauses in your contract that can impact the claims, securing a settlement and enforcement options; the commercial contract terms and charterparty clauses; the profitable use of laytime and demurrage in nontraditional ways; the delaying loading, during the course of the voyage and delaying discharge; handling laytime and demurrage claims and disputes; the time bars and essential documents; and the dispute resolution methods and reasons for choices of arbitration or mediation or litigation
