Course Description

This practical and highly-interactive workshop includes practical sessions for deployment and exercises. Theory learnt in the class will be applied using our state-of-the-art simulators. The International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation, 1990 (OPRC) calls for the International Maritime Organization, along with relevant international and regional organisations, oil and shipping industries, to develop a comprehensive training programme in the field of oil pollution preparedness and response including the availability of expertise for the development and implementation of training programmes. In this regard, it was decided to develop three model training workshops aimed at the following:- Level one: First Responders Level two: Supervisors and On-SceneCommanders Level three: Administrators and Senior Managers This workshop is designed to provide the knowledge and tools to assist management personnel in the development of oil spill contingency arrangements and to gain the decision-making skills necessary to make immediate and informed decisions during oil spill incidents.Participants will also be provided with a knowledge of the fate and behavior of spilled oil, the impacts that oil has on the marine environment, the vulnerability of various to shoreline types and impact that clean-up operations may have. The workshop content is designed to be compatible with the IMO OPRC Model Training workshop Level 2, for Supervisors and On-Scene Commanders.
