Course Description

This practical and highly-interactive course includes practical sessions and exercises where participants carryout surface contamination and dose rate measurements and surveys. Theory learnt in the class will be applied using our state-ofthe-art equipment. This course is designed to provide delegates with a detailed and up-to-date overview of radiation protection officer/qualified expert in accordance with the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulations (FANR). It covers the fundamentals review; the quantities and measurements; the biological effects of ionizing radiation; the principles of radiation protection and the international framework; and the regulatory control. Further, the course will also cover the assessment of external and internal exposures; the protection against occupational exposure; the medical exposures in diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine; the exposure of the public owing to practices; the intervention in situations of chronic and emergency exposure; and training the trainers. The course includes a comprehensive e-book entitled ?An Introduction to Radiation Protection?, published by CRC Press, which will be given to the participants to help them appreciate the principles presented in the course
