Course Description

This hands-on, highly-interactive course includes real-life case studies where participants will be engaged in a series of interactive small groups and class workshops. Anchor Handling is one of the most demanding and inherently dangerous tasks performed in the Marine service industry. Long hours, bad weather, wet and muddy decks, hand and finger pinch hazards and proximity to heavy buoys and wires under strain are some of the risk factors that must be taken into consideration whenever handling anchors. Recognizing these factors is the first step to working safely. Barge/Rig move and anchor handling (AH) operations are among the most complex and dangerous operations done by offshore vessels. Steadily increasing water depth and operations under more extreme conditions are challenging the vessels and their crews. After many fatal accidents the ship owners and oil companies now look for a best practice to improve safety under these operations. This course emphasizes the importance of good preparation for anchor handling, detailed knowledge of the job, continuous risk assessment and a methodical execution of each phase of the operations. These are the bases of a successful anchor handling operations.
