Mr. Gareth Coetzee


Mr. Gareth Coetzee, PE, MSc, BSc, is a Senior Chemical Engineer with over 20 years of Upstream & Midstream extensive experience within the Oil & Gas, Utilities, Refinery and Petrochemical industries. His wide expertise includes Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Direct Chlorination Reactor, Ethylene Dichloride (EDC), Chlorinated Hydrocarbons, Oxychlorination Reactor, Low & High Temperature Fischer-Tropsch, Gas-to-Liquids (GTL), Gastrolic Processes, Gas Desulphurization, Upstream Oil & Gas Asset Evaluation & Monetisation, Gas Planning & Utilisation, Steam-Methane Reformers, Auto-thermal Reformers, Carbon Dioxide Removal, Pressure Swing Absorption, Effluent & Emission Investigation, Process Plant Operations, Plant Optimization & Debottlenecking and Hydrocarbon Feedstock. He is also well-versed in Risk Management & Petroleum Economics, HAZOP, Risk Assessment, Mass & Energy Balance, P&ID development, Waste Heat Boilers, FCC Conditioning, Steady-State Simulations, Rosemount DCS Configuration & Programming, Heat Exchanger and ASPEN Dynamics. He is currently the Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) Evaluations Manager of PetroSA wherein he is in-charge of plant condition monitoring and troubleshooting, process design, operations management, technology development and techno-economic evaluation of strategic business opportunities.

 

During his career life, Mr. Coetzee has gained his practical and field experience through his various significant positions and dedication as the Production Manager, Lead Process Engineer, Senior Process Engineer, Area Production Manager, Operations Manager, Acting Production Manager, Concept Development Engineer and Senior Process Engineer for various companies such as the PetroSA, SASOL Polymers, ESKOM, SASOL Ltd., SASOL MTC and ASPENTech just to name a few.

 

Mr. Coetzee is a Registered Professional Engineer and has a Master degree in Engineering Management from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. Further, he is a Certified Instructor/Trainer, a Certified Internal Verifier/Trainer/Assessor by the City & Guilds of London Institute and by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and an active Member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and the Professional Advisory Committee of Chemical Engineering on ECSA.
