Mr. Alan Parnell, MBA, BSc, is a Senior Inspection Engineer with over 40 years of Onshore & Offshore experience within the Oil, Gas, Petrochemical, Refineries and Power industries. His expertise extends over the areas of Advanced Refinery Inspection, Pressure Vessels, Storage Tank Inspection, Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC), Reforming Process Unit, HF Alkylation Process Unit, Hydrocracking Process Unit, Damage Mechanisms, FCC Process Unit, Fitness-for-Service (FFS), Tank Design & Maintenance, Risk Based Inspection (RBI), Piping & Pipelines, Cathodic Protection System, Corrosion & Metallurgy, Fabrication Technology, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Refractories, Fire Proofing, Asset Integrity Management as well as HAZOP, Process Safety Management (PSM), Engineering Risk Management and Engineering Drawings, Codes & Standards. Further, he is an international expert in various codes and standards like the API 653, API 510, API 570, API 571, API 579, API 580, API 581, API 1163, AICIP and Quality Assurance System (AS/ISO 9000). He was the Asset Integrity Group Manager of ICD Asia Pacific Pty Ltd. wherein he was in-charged in providing asset management consultancy across a range of clients worldwide including Shell, Caltex, The World Bank and Untied Petroleum and responsible for the design review, equipment fabrication inspection, asset data set-up, various in-service inspection, failure investigation and RCA studies.


During his career life, Mr. Parnell held valuable positions such as the Senior Inspection Engineer, Regional Inspection Manager, Inspection Manager, External Pipelines Manager, Engineering Manager, Metallurgical Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, Corrosion Engineer, Professional Metallurgist, Cadet Metallurgist and Consultant/Trainer in various international companies within Europe, Australia, the Middle East and African regions including the BV EM&I Total Oil Company, Shell Global Solutions Amsterdam, Shell Australia Clyde Refinery, Shell UK Stanlow Refinery, Shell International Den Haag Holland, State Rail Authority of New South Wales (NSW), Industrial Contract Designers and Wilson Walton International.


Mr. Parnell has an MBA in Technology Management and a Bachelor degree in Metallurgy from the Deakin University and the University of New South Wales, Australia respectively. Further, he is a Certified API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector, an AICIP Pressure Equipment Inspector, a Certified Instructor/Trainer and a Certified Internal Verifier/Assessor/Trainer by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). He is also an active member of the Australian Corrosion Association, has served in various Australian Standards Association Panels, presented various technical papers and delivered numerous trainings, courses, seminars, workshops and conferences globally.
