Daniel Rivera, BSc, is a Senior
Mechanical Maintenance Engineer with over 20 years of experience within the oil, gas, petrochemical and power
industries. His specialization covers
the areas of preventive, corrective & predictive maintenance,
reliability-based maintenance, maintenance auditing & benchmarking,
computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), root cause failure
analysis & troubleshooting, maintenance planning, scheduling, work control, performance control (KPI’s), life cycle & asset
management and audit. Aside from being
a noted maintenance management consultant and designer of the software
program CMMS GlobalMaint, he
currently works as the Planning &
Reliability Manager of Zinifex
in Australia and is primarily in charge of managing the overall mechanical,
electrical, instrumentation and maintenance activities of the company. He is
an international expert in RAM, RCA, PPM, RCM,
CMMS, RCFA, CBM, LM and TPM.
Mr. Rivera has assumed important responsibilities in
mechanical maintenance and asset management throughout his career life. He
started his career as a planning and predictive maintenance coordinator of Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) in South America where he was in
charge of the implementation of computerized
maintenance management systems and of the direction of the maintenance planning department that
included the implementation of company-wide
maintenance programs and audits.
He later on moved to work as the Maintenance General Foreman of Pluspetrol where he managed the
execution of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance for all petroleum production activities,
treatment & distribution equipment as well as production auxiliary
equipment. Mr. Rivera also worked as Asset Management Application Analyst
for Canadian Natural Resources, an
oil & gas company, where he managed the implementation, review and audit
of asset management stategies of the companies resulting to optimized maintenance processes &
improved performance and reliability.
As the Planning &
Reliability Manager of Zinifex, he is in charge of the maintenance
planning & scheduling processes at both the underground mine and
concentrator plant and also implements a reliability process to improve
overall business performance. He
worked in various leadership capacities oriented to implement, improve and
maintain best practices to reduce and eliminate any source of loss related to
safety and production. Moreover, one
of Mr. Rivera’s strong assets is also his proficiency in computerized
maintenance management systems (CMMS) and adeptness with various softwares
such as Maximo & JD Edwards.
Mr. Rivera’s expertise and experience led him to
share his knowledge by presenting technical
papers in international
maintenance conferences, congress
and expositions sponsored by various universities & organizations in the USA, Canada & South America.
He is currently authoring a textbook on Maintenance
Management. Mr. Rivera has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
